Carmelo Zannelli

My name is Carmelo Zannelli, born in Palermo (Italy) on April 29 1967, where I live and from I do all my Hi-Resolution shooting session, form the balcony of the 5° floor of my building that is not far from the center of my city. Since I was 10 years old, when my primary school teacher spoke to us about the solar system, I follow all the aspects of the astronomy, special attention I did, time ago, to the auto construction but and over all to the photo graphics shoot both in high-resolution then in deep-sky. I was among the associate founders, in 1984 of the society O.R.S.A. (Organizzazione Ricerche e Studi di Astronomia) in Palermo which I am still associate. I’ve started to do astronomical photos in 1982 with the afocal method on a little achromatic refractor of 50mm and with I made my first steps into the field of Moon photos, than to evolve with the photos by analogical Reflex both in high-resolution the deep sky since 1984. In those years, other to participate to national contests of astronomical photographs and to have the publication of images deep-sky and planetary-moon on books and magazines in the matter, I’ve received for the deep-sky photos in 1988 the 2° prize as co-author in the astrophotography contest "1° premio città di Forlì"; in 1989 the 1° prize sect. auto-constructor (with the friend G. Puglia) for our Newton 41.2 cm in the contest "Premio Visconteo città di Rozzano"; in 1992 the 2° prize and other minors prizes at "Premio Nazionale di Fotografia Astronomica Rocca Priora".
I own some personal instruments, the main are my best and inseparable Intes-Micro MN76 (Mak-New) of 180mm F/6 that I use for the Hi-Res, the Meade Schmidt-Newton LXD55 10” f/4 that I use for the deep-sky in the mountains, other for the possibility to use of a Newton 412mm f/4,23 of the society (lens in glass Duran 50, by Zen – with the tube constructed by G. Marcon) born as instromento for deep-sky imaging but that I’m going to convert to the Hi-Res.

From May 2003 I started to acquiredigital images by using a webcam (Philips ToUcam Pro), from February 2004 I use a Philips Vesta Pro.

Recently, exactly from August 2004, I started to take deep-sky digital images with the Newton 41.2 cm and for this matter we have just buy (it will arrive in the second half of December 2004) as amateur astronomer society a digital reflex Canon 20D (8Mpix) which we will use toward the digital deep-sky trying to reach good results.

I’m still single (as I believe both into the couple life then in wedding, and I’d desire to have a good family), graduated in Political Sciences at the university of Palermo. I have two jobs one administrative at the assessorato regionale alla Formazione Professionale of my region., the other into the informatics sector as hardware technique and system manager on operating system Windows.

I’m very proud to join the GLR, where I find a lot of friend, with passion and truly competent.
